Platforms differ: Upwork/Fiverr are marketplaces (you'd only use them if the client is there); PayPal/Stripe/Wise/Payoneer are ways to get paid directly. Fixed fees are in the selected currency's nominal amount (PayPal uses its published EUR/GBP fixed fee; others assume the USD figure — edit below).

For each platform: platform fee = gross × platform %; payment fee = gross × payment % + fixed fee (with a minimum where the provider sets one); withdrawal fee = fixed amount; FX loss = (gross − platform fee − payment fee − withdrawal fee) × FX % (only if you convert); tax reserve = pre-tax amount × tax %; net take-home = pre-tax − tax reserve; % lost = (gross − net) ÷ gross.

Upwork's Freelancer Service Fee is variable from 0% to 15% per contract and is shown on each offer or proposal. The calculator uses 10% as an editable placeholder (marked verify). Withdrawing via Direct to Local Bank costs $0.99.
Fiverr keeps 20% of each order. Withdrawal fees per Fiverr Help: PayPal $0, Bank Transfer via Payoneer $1, Payoneer account $3. The calculator defaults to the $1 bank transfer; the currency conversion cost is set by the payout provider, so its 2% default is marked verify.
For a US PayPal business account, an invoice paid via PayPal Checkout costs 3.49% plus a fixed fee ($0.49, or €0.39 / £0.39), plus a 1.50% international fee. Standard bank withdrawal is free; PayPal's currency conversion spread is 3.00% (PayPal merchant fees page, updated October 1, 2026).
For a US Stripe account: 2.9% + 30¢ per card payment, plus 1.5% for international cards, plus 1% if currency conversion is required. Standard payouts are free.
Usually on fees: Wise charges nothing to receive USD by ACH ($6.11 for a USD wire or Swift payment), while PayPal charges a percentage plus a fixed fee. Wise's conversion fee varies by currency pair (published range 0.22%–4.42%), so the calculator's 0.6% default is a placeholder marked verify — check Wise's own calculator for your currency.
Receiving into a non-local-currency receiving account costs 1% (minimum $1); card payments cost up to 3.99% + $0.49. Withdrawing with currency conversion costs 1.2%–4%, so the calculator's 2% default is marked verify. A $29.95/year fee may apply if you receive under $6,000 in 12 months (not included in the math).
Upwork's $2.99 Direct-to-US-Bank fee for non-US tax addresses (since 2026-09-01), Payoneer's $29.95 yearly account fee, Fiverr buyer fees, Upwork Connects and bank-side correspondent fees are not included.
